A Reform of Lotus Pond in Zuoying VR Exhibition | National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts
Axis3D and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts created A Reform of Lotus Pond in Zuoying, a VR interactive exhibition where visitors stepped into the paintings as Li Gongzi to explore Zuoying’s landscapes and legends in an immersive art adventure.
Client Background
The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is Taiwan’s premier national art institution, dedicated to promoting contemporary and media art while advancing cross-disciplinary exhibitions that integrate technology and interactive audience experiences.
Client Needs
The exhibition aimed to go beyond traditional two-dimensional displays, allowing audiences to “step into the paintings.” Through immersive experiences, it sought to extend the artist’s narrative while reaching broader audiences and engaging multiple senses.
Our Solutions
Axis3D applied VR and interactive media to build two immersive experiences for the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, combining visuals, narration, and voice guidance:
Lotus Pond Scenic VR – Free exploration of Zuoying landmarks such as the Confucius Temple Plaza, Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, and Spring and Autumn Pavilions, with close-up views of brushwork and spatial depth.
Lotus Pond Adventure VR – A martial-arts storyline where visitors play “Li Gongzi,” battling demons inside the painting and experiencing Lee Ming-Tse’s fantasy narrative.
Bilingual Voice Guide – Support for Mandarin and Taiwanese, enhancing accessibility and engagement.
Outcomes
This became the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts’ first narrative exhibition centered on VR, successfully attracting audiences of all ages—especially youth and families—and setting a milestone for new exhibition formats at the museum.
